On the wake of the galleons

Picture a pirate’s village… Near a fort, small wooden houses border narrow streets, their carved balconies over ancient signs of handicraft shops hanging at their doors in the tepid breeze. Further, palm trees and luxurious vegetation provide shade to colorful villas and parks such as the Fountain of Youth park. That’s Saint Augustine, apparently the oldest town in continental United States, where the Spanish galleons, led by Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, first settled in 1565. This is where I landed after the 11 days of Atlantic crossing.
